Every now and then I get asked to dust off the DSLR and take some real photos for other people. Over the last few years it has been school formal photos or family portraits, but this one was a special request... A 1st Birthday Cake Smash.
I was pumped to do this one and knew that it was going to be a bit hit and miss in places with the speed that young children move, but it was going to be fun.
The props were all set and ideas has been discussed, it was just a matter of working out the best place to do the photos for lighting and clicking away.
With a reluctant subject to start with - aren't all kids told not to put their fingers in the cake? - we got there and got some pretty good shots showing her personality in the end.
I know I was pretty happy with the outcome.
Here is a look at what we got up to.
This is the look you get when you sit someone in cake!
This shoot was a ball and Charlie played along well. Like everything, there are things in hindsight that I would do a little bit differently, but for the end result, there is only the room to learn from them. I think we did good!
